Roses is a municipality located in the province of Girona, Catalonia, north-eastern Spain. It is the capital of the comarca of Alt Empordà.
The town of Roses is situated on the Mediterranean Sea coast, in the north-east of the province of Girona and in the centre of the Costa Brava. Due to its privileged situation, with a fine climate, Roses has become one of the most important tourist towns in Catalonia.
The town spreads out over a wide area, from the seafront to the foot of the hills, and is crossed by the main road and the railway line between Barcelona and France. A large number of the town’s inhabitants are engaged in the tourist trade and there are many hotels, apartments, campsites and restaurants.
There is a good range of shops, covering most needs, and a market is held every Thursday. Cultural events are organised throughout the year, including the internationally renowned Roses Classical Music Festival and the Roses Girona Film Festival.
Roses is also a great place from which to explore the surrounding area. There are beautiful villages to be visited, such as Cadaqués and Figueres, and the lovely beaches of the Costa Brava are within easy reach.
